Position Summary
The Research Assistant – Farm Operations will support daily research and farm management activities within IITA’s experimental farms. The successful candidate will assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing field experiments while ensuring high-quality data collection and adherence to research standards.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about agriculture, research, and hands-on fieldwork.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in setting up and maintaining experimental plots and demonstration fields.

Support land preparation, planting, weeding, irrigation, and harvesting activities.

Collect, record, and analyze research data under the supervision of research scientists.

Operate and maintain farm tools, machinery, and irrigation systems.

Supervise daily laborers and ensure all farm activities are conducted safely and efficiently.

Monitor crop performance, record field observations, and report to supervisors.

Assist in implementing research protocols and maintaining accurate documentation.

Contribute to inventory management and proper handling of agricultural inputs.
Requirements

Minimum of National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agriculture, Crop Production, Agronomy, or a related field.

At least 1–2 years of practical experience in farm management or agricultural research.

Good knowledge of crop cultivation, farm equipment use, and field operations.

Strong attention to detail and ability to follow research protocols.

Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Physical ability to perform outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
