Location: Ibadan, Oyo State

Position Summary

The Research Assistant – Farm Operations will support daily research and farm management activities within IITA’s experimental farms. The successful candidate will assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing field experiments while ensuring high-quality data collection and adherence to research standards.

This role is ideal for individuals passionate about agriculture, research, and hands-on fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in setting up and maintaining experimental plots and demonstration fields.

• Support land preparation, planting, weeding, irrigation, and harvesting activities.

• Collect, record, and analyze research data under the supervision of research scientists.

• Operate and maintain farm tools, machinery, and irrigation systems.

• Supervise daily laborers and ensure all farm activities are conducted safely and efficiently.

• Monitor crop performance, record field observations, and report to supervisors.

• Assist in implementing research protocols and maintaining accurate documentation.

• Contribute to inventory management and proper handling of agricultural inputs.

Requirements

• Minimum of National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agriculture, Crop Production, Agronomy, or a related field.

• At least 1–2 years of practical experience in farm management or agricultural research.

• Good knowledge of crop cultivation, farm equipment use, and field operations.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow research protocols.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

• Physical ability to perform outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
