MSF is currently recruiting for the following position:

Job Title: Medical Doctor

Location: Zurmi, Zamfara State
Employment Type: Fixed-Term Contract (6 months start)
Workload: 208 hours per month
Level: 9

Role Purpose

The Medical Doctor will provide high-quality outpatient and inpatient care in line with MSF medical guidelines, updated clinical standards, and universal hygiene practices. The goal is to improve the health and wellbeing of patients receiving MSF’s services.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide medical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment for patients, following MSF protocols and clinical standards

• Conduct outpatient and inpatient consultations and prescribe appropriate treatments

• Communicate clearly with patients and families, ensuring understanding of diagnoses and treatment plans

• Monitor the condition of admitted patients through regular visits and examinations

• Work with other doctors to decide on patient discharge, referrals, or transfers

• Oversee the proper use, storage, and distribution of medications and medical materials

• Ensure proper disinfection, hygiene, and sterilization procedures

• Participate in collecting and reviewing epidemiological information and report any concerns to supervisors

• Support the ongoing training of medical and paramedical staff

• Apply all MSF medical protocols and uphold confidentiality

• Supervise team members, manage schedules, and participate in emergencies when needed

Context-Specific Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive and culturally appropriate healthcare to individuals and families

• Collaborate closely with Nursing, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Mental Health, Protection, and Health Promotion teams

• Stabilize and manage emergency cases promptly

• Document consultations thoroughly and maintain accurate patient records

• Follow infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures

• Identify patients needing surgical care, prepare them appropriately, and support surgical interventions when necessary

• Escalate complex cases to surgeons or supervisors as required

• Use telemedicine services effectively and integrate specialist advice into patient care

Requirements

Education

• Essential: Medical Doctor degree

• Preferred: Diploma in Tropical Medicine

Experience

• At least 2 years of clinical experience (including during medical training)

• Advantageous experience in:

  • Tropical medicine

  • Public Health

  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology

  • Paediatrics

  • Infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS, STI, TB)

  • General practice

  • Minor surgery

Language

• Mission language required

• Hausa and other local languages are an advantage

Remuneration

• Compensation is according to MSF’s national salary scale
